Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue of Captain America from J. Michael Straczynski & Marvel.
Captain America has barely had any time to relax after battling death itself because he’s now on his way to Broxton, Oklahoma with Spider-Man & Thor. Just what exactly is going on? Let’s jump in and find out!
Captain America #15 by J. Michael Straczynski (writer), Jesus Saiz (artist), Matt Hollingsworth (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramagna (letterer), Taurin Clarke (cover artist) is a very interesting issue that set’s up a great mystery worthy of 3 Avengers. It’s a compelling story that will leave you guessing until the very end. Even then you won’t have all of the answers.
The story revolves around Captain America, Thor & Spider-Man arriving in Broxton, Oklahoma. This is after it has been utterly destroyed by the God of Hammers. The mystery really begins when Kelda, Asgardian goddess of light and love appears before our heroes. This is despite the fact that she should be dead. The mystery deepens and eventually leads them to journey into Dark Asgard.
I don’t want to spoil too much of the story, because it’s the best part of the issue. Seeing Cap, Thor and Spider-Man try to work their way through this mystery was a ton of fun to read. I haven’t read too many issues where they’re put into a situation like this. So it was a nice change of pace from what I usually read.
The artwork in this issue is as crisp as always, and is a real standout point for the entire issue. Everything pops off the page and the colors are so rich and vivid. I particularly loved the contrast between our heroes and the characters in the Dark realm. It was a great visual to see.
FINAL POINT: It might not be the most action packed issue you’ve ever read and that might be surprising considering the issue involves Cap, Thor and Spider-Man. But it works REALLY WELL, and the mystery told in the issue is an incredible one. It’s a compelling issue that is going to be interesting to see play out in the next few issues. This issue is definitely one you should pick up and read as soon as you can if it isn’t in your pull list already.
SCORE: 9.0 out of 10
