This first issue of “The Fade” follows a newly high school graduate, Jeannie, who is finding her way through her life.  Jeannie, like many college students, lives with her parents and attends community college. Jeannie has a special place in her heart for writing. Jeannie has a vivid imagination, and yearns for adventure in her life.  Jeannie also has a best friend, who helps her navigate her life at school and at home.

I believe this story is so relatable, because once upon a time, I was a writer. Actually, I am wanting to get back into writing. The Fade has a perfect balance of seeing Jeannie’s world, but also seeing the “fantasy world.” Jeannie’s characters in the fantasy world, are sort of like Lord of the Ring characters. A lot of them have unique features, especially having elf ears. The fantasy characters have a lot of sword fighting, and they also have growing pains. Each character has their own personality and I really enjoy that.

When Jeannie ignites the fantasy world, she always has to light a candle. This candle and this process is related to the title, “The Fade.” It  make sense, because Jeannie fades from her world, to a more creative world. I’m really interested to see where Jeannie takes her characters.

The art is very unique, I love that it’s different than any other art. Most art styles are simple, and ultimately are the same.  I think that this one is fairly different just because of the subject. The artist wants it to look like a dream world.  I’m really excited to see how Jeannie becomes more confident in her creative world. I also want her to do well at school, as she is studying the craft of literature.

I give this a 9.5/10.
