Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue in Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising from Alex Segura & Marvel comics!

The battle rages on in the outskirts of the Anoat sector, with a ragtag group of rebel fighters taking on some remaining Imperial loyalists. And after being captured, and freed by lieutenant Kith Alaytia (the right hand to Grand Moff Adelhard)! Will they be able to escape? Let’s jump into it, and find out!

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #4 by Alex Segura (writer), Luke Ross & Jethro Morales (artists), Rachelle Rosenberg (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramagna (letterer), Phil Noto (cover) kicks the action into high gear and is a great issue from start to finish. Business is finally picking up, and things are getting REAL interesting. None other than Luke Skywalker himself shows up to rescue our heroes.

Much like it’s predecessor’s this issue has a lot going on perspective wise. You’ve got Luke’s battle, our heroe’s trying to escape, and Lando getting recruited to save the heroes. The interesting part is Luke’s interaction with Reyna Oskure, because to this point he think’s the Sith and their disciple’s are done with. This is after all right after the battle of Endor, and so both the Emperor and Vader are gone. So it’s interesting to see Luke react to all of this.

MORE STAR WARS!

The other interesting part of this issue is the development done with Adelhard. He is an entirely new character to the Star Wars mythos. He hasn’t been seen in any other comic, novel, video game or tv show. So to see a character with no expectations and an unknown future is a welcome sight for a story set during a time period where we know what the end result is going to be.

FINAL POINT: This issue feels like the ending of the first act of the story and the set up for the next one. The pieces are set on the board, and now the chess game will be played. We know how the end result will be, and that’s the Rebellion wins and the Empire is “destroyed”. Sorry if I spoiled that for you, but we’ve known that for almost 10 years now. But for as much as we know, there’s an equal amount we don’t. And that’s going to be the interesting part in this series. And man it’s setting up to be a fun ride.

Score: 8.5 out of 10
