NYX #4 had too much excitement for just one reviewer, so this review was written by Nerd Initiative’s Kat and yours truly, Megan Nichole!

The Teacher

So far in this NYX run, Professor David Alleyne has stayed out of the mutant issues that have increased on the streets of NYC. He has spent his time teaching mutant studies at Empire State University while the other mutants like Ms. Marvel have been looking out for the mutants after the fall of Krakoa.

Speaking of Ms. Marvel, Kamala has been doing all the research she can to find out who the Krakoan is and what his next step will be. Turns out, the Krakoan’s attacks aren’t so random and have a very specific target for each attack. After Kamala realizes the patterns of the Krakoan’s attacks, she realizes that these are set up to get her attention. In other words, the Krakoan wants to fight her.

Kamala takes all her findings to David, AKA Prodigy, and the result didn’t go her away. David says he can’t be of service to her because his job demands a balance and that means he can’t be seen in that kind of situation. Kamala agrily hurries off to find Sophie Cuckoo so they can get to the next attack by the Krakoan.

The Art

Kat – There’s nothing bad that I can say about Enid Balám’s art in this comic. His art, week in and week out with this comic is nothing short of amazing. And with Raúl Angulo on coloring and Joe Sabino on lettering, the 3 of them make the story’s writing come to life.

Megan – The artists of NYX continue to showcase their talents in NYX #4. Enid Balám really brings the seriousness of the comic to life with his artwork while Raúl Angulo brings it all together with his coloring talents. Of course, we can’t forget Joe Sabino who is the letterer for NYX #4 and does a fantastic job, as he usually does. The artists truly give you exactly what you want out of an X-Men comic and then some. Some of my favorite parts of the comic was the fight between Kamala and the Krakoan. I love the look of the Krakoan and his power sets basically jump off the page at you. Hats off to the artists.

The Writing

Kat – Speaking of the writing, Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly have taken 5 different mutant characters, and have found a way to make them work together perfectly. Since issue #1, Jackson and Collin have made the book’s writing so enjoyable to read.

Megan – Another phenomenal installation of NYX courtesy of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing! I love that the comic had the narration of Prodigy’s own notes. It was a very creative way to give us so much of a character who’s been rather quiet this run. Also, I can’t not mention the deepcut Magneto phrase that was said by the Krakoan. That made my day!

NYX #4 is so much fun from beginning to end. I’d say this was the most exciting installment out of NYX so far. Can’t wait to see what’s next for our New York City mutants!

Final Thoughts

Kat – This is a rare instance where I find an X-Men comic from Marvel, and have really enjoyed it. This comic is one that I continue to get excited about every time a new issue releases. And issue 4 continues to prove why this is one of the best X-Men comics this year from Marvel.

10 out of 10

Megan – Like I said, I think this was the most exciting NYX comic of this run to date. I was really hoping to hear more from Prodigy and the creative team truly delivered.
