Batman the Long Halloween the Last Halloween #2:
The murders are happening again and Jim Gordon’s son is still missing in a city full of crime and confusion. Batman and Robin continue their hunt as Gotham’s elite criminals are being picked off one by one in what could be a return of Holiday or a cop cat. Time is running out for Batman to solve this mystery!
Creative Team:
Writer: Jeph Loeb
Art: Klaus Janson
Colors: Dave Stewart
Letters: Richard Starkings
Cover: Tim Sale
Initial Thoughts:
Tim Sale does incredible work on this issues cover making Batman seem larger than life as he towers over a Gotham City steeped in a deep red as blood is being shed on the streets. Inside the pages Klaus is doing a serious job of making this comic feel and look like a 90’s comic book. The old-school style lends to the crafty detective-style story that is being told returning to the vibe of the first Long Halloween. Dave is running a marathon in easy when it comes to the colors. The grey and dull colors of Arkham give it a smelly and wet feeling that you can sense and the streets of Gotham have the dark and moldy feeling as it should during winter.
Loeb is building a story that is wrought with suspense. As he weaves the story leaving us asking ourselves if Holiday is truly back he makes sure to keep some of the dialogue light and humurous at times. Loeb also makes sure to throw C-list villains like Calendar Man and Mad Hatter in the story which is a sure fire way to make me enjoy a story that much more.
Overall Thoughts:
Batman the Long Halloween the Last Halloween continues to be a proper sequel and homage to its predecessor by delivering a classic who-dun-it thriller. The team is taking this story and doing it justice making this a must grab Batman story!
10/10!
