Out, Proud, and Worried

After Alison Blaire’s successful concert, where she was attacked by Scorpia on stage in front of thousands of fans, they took the villain backstage to find out what was going on. Scorpia, who was proud of what she’s done, didn’t know who sent her but gave a happy warning that this will happen at every show. There has been a hit put out by an anonymous headhunter to make sure Alison’s tour is ruined. It seems Alison, AKA Dazzler, can expect every show to have an evil villain attacking her, potentially putting her fans at risk.

Interview Gone Wrong

Next on the tour, Alison has an appearance in London on a radio show where she will be interviewed and perform for a live audience. Halfway through the interview, it’s pretty clear what the host thinks of Dazzler and what she stands for. Needless to say, the appearance was already off to a bad start, and that’s not even including the attack.

Dazzler #2 was a fun read with real life issues expertly shown as a mutant problem. Something I really love is that while Dazzler is always a fun character, she’s showing the problems the mutants have to face while not having their safe haven of Krakoa around. The mutants are still looked down on and targeted, even the ones as beloved as the famous pop star, Dazzler. Anyone can pretend to be an ally until the going gets tough and they show their true colors, the host of Alison’s interview being the perfect example.

Jason Loo does a phenomenal job at giving us not only a look at a pop star’s perspective, but a mutant’s perspective in the human world. It’s also a lot of fun getting a catchy Dazzler song in both installments.

The Art

The artists of Dazzler #2 continue to impress with their bright and vibrant colors contrasting Dazzler’s white and silver aesthetic. The whole scene with Dazzler and her performance that was attacked was gorgeous to look at and kept me wanting to stay on the page. The creative team makes the comic run feel like a teenage pop star’s dream and it’s pitch perfect for the story and tone.

The creative team has really flexed their talents with this Dazzler run. From the beginning to the end, it’s plenty of fun with a lot of hard hitting moments in it.
