Prior to the Starstudded a cast of Prime Video’s brand new upcoming series Cross, taking the mainstage at the Javits Center. They took time to speak in a more intimate Press Conference.
A Story Straight Out Of The Books…..IT IS NOT!
That’s right! Micheal Chriton, author of the long-running book series the show is based on, gave the production the opportunity to make their own storyline. That’s not saying they won’t go back and use the books as a reference because obviously, Alex Cross has been around for 30 years and portrayed by several actors. There’s a lot of stuff to draw from, but the fact that season 1 is going to be its own standalone apart from all the books, makes this a story worth watching.
A Cast that’s NOT to be Crossed
This cast is unlike any other we’ve seen on TV in a very long time. Cas members during the press conference and panel included Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walks, Ryan Eggold, with Ben Watkins executive producer and showrunner. Let’s not forget Aldis Hodge himself, playing the titular character.
The whole cast explained that they have the connections off-screen first that will thrive on screen. Because as Aldis and Isaiah both said “THAT’S MY GUY!”
Books vs Movies vs TV
Speaking of feeling things coming out of the screen, showrunner Ben Watkins explained that he was trying to make Alex Cross not a superhero. He wanted to show the flaws and the dents in the armor because that is what solid, relatable television should do.
Not only does Watkins want to make sure that there are relatable characters on screen he even uses some of the things he learns about the cast off-screen in the show to be able to get that visceral and real reaction, of course, respectfully. The cast is now mindful of what they say around Watkins.
Another thing in Watkins wanted to do was make sure that having this new medium of television, he wanted to go in depth with the villains and make sure not to have the obvious one dimension baddie. Thankfully, doing it over the longer format gives the reader watcher the time to understand the psychology of these villains.
