Saturday or Day 3 of New York Comic Con has always been the most loaded day of showcases since the cons inception. The Panels and events carry great expectations as the most amount of fans are in attendance celebrating their fandoms. Let’s take a recap of what ones stood out from the pack.

Ghost Machine Panel – NYCC 2024

GHOST MACHINE STRIKES BACK (ONE YEAR LATER)

The upstart media company debuted at NYCC 2023 with a monster impact. With Brad Anderson, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, Francis Manapul, Ivan Reis, Peter Snejbjerg,, Maytal Zchut and Lamont Magee in attendance, the Ghost Machine creators addressed the crowd with updates on current Image Comics series “Geiger“, “Rook: Exodus” and “Redcoat“. They also unveiled details about their next wave of books. “The Rocketfellers” by Tomasi and Manapul along with “Hornsby & Halo” with art from Snejbjerg follows “Hyde Street” (w/ art by Reis) in the next phase of books. Zchut’s “Devour” and Magee’s “The Soulless” was teased while the mysterious “First Ghost” displayed its logo.

One thing that is infectious from this group is the amount of comradery and support poured into their characters and team. Magee gave an impactful speech to cap off events for the start of year two. It was the perfect close for the panel and set the bar for what every following panel needed to hit to be a success.

ENERGON UNIVERSE HAS GOT TWO WORDS FOR YA: YO JOE!

It has been a little over one year since the Energon Universe debuted in the pages of “Void Rivals”. Since then, the new shared universe of “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe” under Skybound Entertainment has been expanding.

Sean Mackiewicz (SVP/Publisher, Skybound), Robert Kirkman (Void Rivals), Jorge Corona (Transformers), Joshua Williamson (G.I. Joe), and Tom Reilly (G.I. Joe) held court as they sparked conversations about their titles. Kirkman played off the crowd comparing the Joe rogues gallery as better *gasp* than a few legendary ones. The Void Rivals writer also spoke of COBRA-LA characters making their way into the world of Darak and Solila.

Conversation shifted back to the upcoming G.I. Joe ongoing series. Willaimson and Reilly spoke of the excitement of a new Joe (“Risk”) entering the fray. Cobra Valkyries caught the audience’s attention as they were mentioned to be joining the new series as well. Corona talked up Transformers as the series prepares to deal with the re-entry of the most dangerous Decepticon of them all: Megatron. Fans left the panel with an exclusive G.I. Joe ashcan before the regular series drops in November 2024.

DC DELIVERS ON MAJOR RETURNS!

Arguably, the biggest news of the day came from DC Comics. Along with James Gunn and the cast of the upcoming animated Max series “Creature Commandos” showing off a new trailer, the comic world was turned upside down with 2 major announcements. The “Jim Lee and Friends” panel announced that the legendary artist is reuniting with Jeph Loeb to created “Hush 2” starting in March 2025. Lee and Loeb worked together on the original Hush series in Batman #608 (2002).

The other announcement is DC VERTIGO IS BACK! The imprint for Mature readers (which began in 1993 until 2020) is returning to stores with The Nice House By The Sea by James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez Bueno. Even though the series is currently out as a “DC Black label” book, it will lead the new start for the adult line soon. DC Black Label, which has been Vertigo’s successor, appears to be staying around. Time will tell how this plays out but knowing what Vertigo has meant to longtime readers, expectations are high.

DON’T MISS THE 2024 PREVIEW!

With one more day left, there’s a few more panels looking to make a splash before bowing out. Image Comics, DSTLRY and Marvel (looking to piggyback off the announcements from the “Marvel Fanfare” panel) all have key events lined up. Day 4 has some big shoes to fill considering the impact of the previous days. Can they do it? You tell us!
