Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 2nd issue of the Echoes of Fear storyline from George Mann & Dark Horse Comics!

Reath Silas & Amadeo Azzazzo are still on the hunt for the Echo Stones, legendary artifacts that supposedly amplify the useres Force ability. But to do so they need to track them down through history and legend.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Echoes of Fear #2 by George Mann (Writer), Vincenzo Federici & Juan Samu (Illustrators), Michael Atiyeh (color art), Comicraft’s Tyler Smith & Jimmy Betrancourt (Letterer’s), Eduardo Mello & Valentina Taddeo (cover art) is a fun issue that further expands on a bit of the back story of the Echo Stones.

They’re a new item, and we don’t know a whole lot about them. So to get a little bit of backstory is great, rather than just a “hey, trust us…this is important…”

The story shifts to a Jedi Barnabas Vim. Vim splits the Echo Stone into pieces. Vim is now spreading the shards across the galaxy while his Padawan takes some of them and does the same task.

The journey leads him to Rebunda City on the planet Petris Major, because there’s been a lot of stories going round about a Jedi using a “magical stone”.

The story is a solid one with plenty of adventure, exotic locations, and a little bit of mystery. And it’s a great story from George Mann. The artwork is also top notch and really adds to the story and enhances the overall reading experience. The backgrounds of the story are also great, because it’s a Star Wars story but doesn’t feel like a typical one (if that makes sense). The story is my favorite part of the whole issue, because it’s such a different take on things than has been presented in Star Wars lately. Which I know might be surprising, but it’s true.

FINAL POINT: George Mann pens a fantastic issue that is absolutely worth the read this week. He’s building the foundation for a great story that is only getting better with each issue. Whatever ends up happening with the Echo Stones is going to be incredibly interesting to read, and I’m absolutely going to be reading.

Score: 8.5 out of 10
