DC Horror Presents Creature Commandos #1:
The United States government has an offer you simply cannot refuse. However, it comes with a price. Are you willing to risk your life to get the one thing you want most? Creature Commandos bursts onto the scene in an epic blood-splattered entrance. Dr. West and General Eiling have a special mission that only the weirdest can accomplish as they recruit Velcro, Wanda, and Lucky to obtain something that could be fatal if in the wrong hands. This issue has it all: action, weirdness, stakes, and blood-sucking creatures, will the team be able to survive?

Let’s Chat About the Art and Letters:
To dive into the creepy and weird you have to craft the mood of creepy and weird which is exactly what this issue brings. There’s an old school vibe to the world they are building for us which endears me further into the horror aspect of this run. We get to see our Creatures and their introductions hit home. Velcro, Wanda, and Lucky look terrifying but at the same time have a softness to them despite their looks.
The colors blend beautifully with light explosions and dark, mysterious shadows built around the scenery. Ferran adds in the letters as our team has hisses and tones built into every word spoken. This is a very well crafted and artistically appealing issue!
Now For Our Story:
David is no stranger when creating a story that leans into the gritty and terrifying. I love that there is a reason for our team to assemble despite being against their will, and that does not involve a bomb implanted into them. Lucky is a character that stands out the most because while he may be the most “simple,” David creates him with an emotional depth that draws the reader to the character. I can tell this will be an off-the rails and chaotic story, and I cannot wait.
Overall:
DC Horror Presents Creature Commandos #1 is an emotionally chaotic ride from start to finish. There are breaths for the story to unfold and action when needed, making this issue a must-grab for New Comic Book Day!
