Violator: Origin recounts the tale of his fall from grace in this first issue of the characters origin! It’s a grandiose story from his heavenly duties to a single doubt in his mind that jump-started a holy war. Lucifer Morningstar may have provided the spark, but Violator shaped it into a fire that scorched the heavens!

Violator: Origin Spins a Familiar Yarn

This issue starts out with the star of this story explaining to the reader that he will start his story from the beginning, but not THE beginning. It’s a funny little intro to the heavy, action packed story that is to follow.

This is the story of the “End of the Beginning” as seen through the eyes of Baziel, an angel in the service of The Creator. The angels are devout, fiercely loyal beings that are assisting in the creation of Earth.

A Seed of Doubt Grows Violator: Origin

Baziel begins to question his existence, his work, even his Creator after a short run in with Lucifer Morningstar. The dynamic between Baziel and his partner Gloriana goes from symbiotic to tumultuous after Baziel tries sharing his thoughts.

Patra is the newest horror slasher story from Image Comics!

Once Baziel makes the final leap to secret meetings with Lucifer’s most trusted, it’s not long before he gives them the means to rise up and take on the army of Heaven!

Violator: Origin Exceeds Expectations

I really enjoyed this issue, maybe it’s because I didn’t have high hopes, but the story felt so fresh despite the familiarity with the source material. The character arc of Baziel was well executed in such a small time frame. The pacing was amazing. It’s a quick read for an over-sized issue, but it doesn’t feel rushed.

The artwork in this one is phenomenal. I’m a big fan of line work and patterns, in particular psychedelic images, and that’s what this feels like. It reminds me a bit of Tradd Moore’s work, but a little more grounded. It really works in giving Heaven and the angels a fresh look and perspective. They look almost demonic in nature and yet regal and, in a way, innocent.

C.O.W.L. Continues!

The colors in this issue are so detailed and awesome. The intricate patterns on the angels, the vibrant environment, and the dichotomy of good and evil are all highlighted and brought to life through Brad Simpson’s fantastic work.

Everything Points to 9/10

What a great way to kick off this 6 issue series. The retelling of of Lucifer’s forces rising up and being cast out of Heaven was a pleasant surprise. Marc Andreyko puts us in the place of Baziel. The character feels so relatable and as the journey unfolds, the reader feels every doubt, every question, and every moment of confusion. The detailed and extravagant artwork by Piotr Kowalski and Brad Simpson immerse us in the world of Heaven. It is a fantasy world full of angels and grandiose battles and the reader feels every panel of it. I didn’t think I would be as up on this issue as I believed, but it’s going on the pull list!
