Catch up with the Venom War with Venom War: Deadpool #1!
Shift interrupted
Continuing the Venom War, Daredevil is the latest hero to join the battle against the zombiotes. Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios, both going by the Daredevil moniker, are up against the zombie symbiotes made by the future Eddie Brock, Meridius. Matt was working at St. Nick’s Orphanage as Father Matt, tending to the children, when the zombiotes attack.
With the children in danger, and a large herd of zombiotes making their grand entrance, Matt has to figure a way to keep everyone safe. Fortunately, Matt doesn’t have to fight this battle alone as Elektra makes her way to him to help. Elektra fights off the zombiotes as Matt tends to the children. It seems to be a losing battle as there’s only one of her and hundreds of the zombie symbiotes. Elektra fights her hardest, but even she sees that this just isn’t a possible win for her.
Meanwhile, Matt is trying his hardest to keep the kids calm but in their panic, they ask where Father Javi is. Matt realizes Father Javi went to the basement and never came back. Matt leaves one of the older kids in charge, and heads into the height of the battle between Elektra and the zombiotes to get to the basement. Once he reaches the basement, Matt sees that Father Javi and the two men he was with have been taken over by the zombiotes. So, that means the only thing stopping the zombiotes from attacking the children are him and Elektra.
The Art
Something I really appreciated was that the artists on Venom War: Daredevil #1 made the zombiotes look utterly terrifying. It certainly matched the tone of the comic very nicely. Elektra looked fantastic in her Daredevil suit throughout the book, which I loved. The dark color tones meshed really well with the great amount of detail given to each character. Overall, the art set the tone quickly and kept that same energy going.
The Writing
Venom War: Daredevil #1 does a great job at keeping you hooked into the story and excited all the way through. It was really interesting to see the Venom War from Matt and Elektra’s perspective. I have to say that Venom War: Daredevil #1 shows the Venom War in a much more terrifying light than most of the other comics I’ve read in the event. I loved how hectic and dark the attack of the zombiotes was because I feel that’s much more believable in that situation. Overall, this felt like how the tone should be during the Venom War.
I give this a 10 out of 10
