Predator Versus Black Panther #2:
They are everywhere, and they are nowhere. The mysterious hunters have invaded Wakanda for the perfect hunt and have quickly sent the Dora Milaje into panic mode as they have been separated and picked off. However, something lurks in the mountains of Wakanda that the invaders would love nothing more than to take for their own. Their precious Vibranium!
Creative Team:
Writer: Benjamin Percy
Artists: Sean Damien Hill with Lee Ferguson, and Jonas Trinidade
Colors: Erick Arcinieda
Letters: VC’s Travis Lanham
Cover: Ken Lashley and Juan Fernandez
The Artwork:
Firstly, Ken and Juan knocked the main cover out of the park as it portrays an epic clash of titans battling one another. It’s what I want out of this story and each are powerful in their own regards and perhaps the greatest hunters in the galaxy. When it comes to inside of the pages the art team really captures the spirit and elusiveness of the Predator. Translating cloaking technology cannot be easy but, they have crafted a clever way to do so while hiding them amongst the forrest.
The team crafts up minor battles that do an excellent job showcasing each side’s abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. The brutal close-quarters combat is captured without feeling too messy, and they are allowed to breathe within their panels.
The Story:
Percy executes the “feel-out stages” of the battle, giving us a taste of what is yet to come in this story. He captures how the Dora Milaje and Okoye specifically lean on their senses and training and then make simple mistakes, while the Yatuja are master hunters who are also not perfect and have both come out powerfully. He is writing the lead-up to a Wrestlemania main event, allowing both sides to come out strong in the build-up of anticipation. One stand out for me is Ben gives an inner voice to the Predators which is not something we have really ever seen and it makes them feel more real. You are able to see inside their brains and how they work which empowers their species even more so.
Overall:
Predator Versus Black Panther #2 continues to world-build both sides and brings them head-on in clashes that will excite Marvel and Predator fans. The lore is built upon and enhanced in this issue, and we are building anticipation for the great battle between T’Challa and the Predator.
9.5/10 Overall.
