Who better to get involved with the Venom War than Deadpool? While everything in New York is pure madness, Deadpool finds himself right in the middle fighting off zombiotes. Given the amount of zombiotes attacking, it seems like a hopeless battle for Deadpool, until Princess and Andi Benton, AKA Silence, show up for the fun. I’ll never get tired of seeing Princess and Deadpool fight together, so this was a treat.

Silence, Deadpool, and Princess fight the good fight until the zombiotes have their eyes set on a bus of children at the local zoo. I’m not sure what’s more terrifying, zombiote children or zombiote animals. Looks like Deadpool is feeling the same way about the new zombiote attackers. Silence is able to cure the zombiote hosts with her anti-venom, but the zombiotes are relentless and reinfect the children.

Deadpool, now missing a limb, sees that this battle isn’t going the way it should and heads to the sewers for shelter. Silence and Princess follow Deadpool down the sewer to his old stomping grounds, Monster Metropolis. Now with the Venom War in full swing above ground, Deadpool revisits the monsters of his past and hopefully they’ll help the heroes with the battle against the zombiotes.

The Art

The artstyle of Venom War: Deadpool #1 is exactly what you’d want when you think about Deadpool being involved in the Venom War. A lot of darkness contrasting the reds of Deadpool and Princess along with an impressive amount of detail in each panel. The best way to describe the art is exciting. The excitement you get from seeing the zombiotes take over a zoo and then seeing Princess fight it out with a zombiote elephant was so much fun and beautifully illustrated. I can’t wait to see what the artists do with Venom War: Deadpool #2.

The Writing

All around, Venom War: Deadpool #1 was an exhilarating read. Deadpool always brings the entertainment factor, but adding in Silence and Marvel monsters is just the cherry on top. It was really great seeing some fan favorite monsters blend perfectly into Deadpool’s take on the Venom War. I am really curious to see where Cullen Bunn takes this run in the Venom War event as Deadpool was not who I expected when first hearing about this event.

I give this a 10 out of 10
