Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing a one shot issue in The High Republic Adventures from Daniel Jose Older & Dark Horse Comics.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures One Shot is a good interlude story that takes place during the events that have been told recently in the other comic line that Daniel Jose Older has been telling. Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures One Shot by Daniel Jose Older (writer), Nick Brokenshire (illustrator), Michael Atiyeh (color art), Comicraft’s Tyler Smith & Jimmy Betancourt (letterers), Rachele Aragno & Michael Atiyeh (cover art) is a fun one shot that splits the story between Alys “Crash” Ongawa & Krix Kamerat.

It’s a fun one shot to read, although if you haven’t been keeping up with the story Older has been telling there’s a chance you might get a little lost but not much. Aly’s & Krix make for interesting characters and there stories are good companion pieces to what’s been told recently in this story. It’s going to be interesting to see just how these might tie into the main story. Older does a good job of weaving in established plot points from the other High Republic works and makes for a very compelling story that I think everyone should give a chance to read when they can.

MORE STAR WARS!

My favorite part of the issue is the “negotiation” between Krix and Marchion Ro. Krix has information he thinks Ro could use, and Ro could not care less. It really illustrates just how maniacal Ro is for readers who might not be up to date or familiar with the character. It’s easily the standout point of the issue for me.

FINAL POINT: Daniel Jose Older does an incredible job telling a one shot story that is a fantastic companion piece to the story that’s been going on in recent months. If you’ve been keeping up with the story, you’re going to want to read it ASAP. If you haven’t, give it a shot. It’s a great bit of storytelling that might convince you to read the work Older has been doing, because it’s been GREAT work.

SCORE: 7.6 out of 10
