Marvel Zombies Dawn of Decay #1:
Groot is patient zero as a new zombie virus has been unleashed! New York City has become a wasteland after the Avengers became infected due to Groot sneezing in the face of Captain America, and now it is up to Groot and Hulk to battle their way through the undead. The duo must make it to Avengers Tower to work on a cure however, Hulk may destroy his friends before they ever make it there.
The Artwork:
Muhr and Rosenberg do a great job of luring us into a false sense of security as the bright and vibrant colors mixed with seeing our heroes interact to make us forget what this story is truly about. Muhr crafts up some clever ways to show off Groot’s abilities while also getting a chance to show off in transforming Banner into Hulk and back. The vibrant colors give us a happy vibe until the outbreak lets loose. The quick transformation into mindless zombies is fun as the team showcases the quick decaying monsters. Meanwhile the lettering matches the energy shifting in tone allowing the story to fully evolve.
The Story:
Again, Krajewski leads us into a false sense of security by drafting up a silly story where Rocket and Groot steal a farming laser, leading to the usual silly hijinks. However, he also makes us sad when Groot gets the disappointed dad talk from Cap, which would kill any of us metaphorically. Friendly reminder to always cover your mouth as well because Groots bad day goes worse by sneezing on our favorite hero thus leading to the outbreak.
Overall:
Marvel Zombies Dawn of Decay #1 is a fun spin on the Marvel Zombies franchise by teaming up Groot and Hulk in an unlikely manner. This story is going to be a fun and intense one as we are only getting started.
