Be sure to catch up with Deadpool #4!
Diving back into Cody Ziglar’s Deadpool run and this run has been strong through and through. Last we left off, Taskmaster and Deadpool head out to fight Death Grip after being summoned, but Death Grip had a plan of attack at the ready. Death Grip had absorbed the Muramasa Blade, which is the key to destroying Deadpool’s healing powers. While fighting Death Grip, Deadpool is feeling every one of his hits but like true Deadpool fashion, he jokes his way through the pain. Meanwhile, Deadpool’s daughters, Ellie and Princess are on the hunt to find their dad. They’re determined to find him, even if that means threatening dear old Doug, which proves to be successful.
While the regenerating degenerate daughters are on their way, the fight continues with Deadpool and Death Grip. Under the impression that he can finally defeat Deadpool, Death Grip is using everything he has to take down our favorite Merc with a Mouth. But Deadpool has a game plan of his own. A reason why Deadpool thinks Death Grip doesn’t stand a chance against him.
The Art
I really enjoyed how the fight with Death Grip was colored and drawn, which contrasting bright blues that gave the panels a nice mystic feel. The juxtaposition of Death Grip’s powers and Deadpool’s blood red look adds even more impact to the fight. Another thing I really appreciated was Taskmaster and how he was illustrated using his powers against the enemy. Honestly, that entire page is nothing less than stunning. This entire run has been a feast for the eyes consistently and Deadpool #5 is no exception to that.
The Writing
Deadpool #5 keeps the excitement going strong with excellent fights, fantastic banter, and creative 4th wall breaks. I really love seeing how Deadpool’s mind is on his daughter’s wellbeing while still holding true to the characteristics that him who he is. I think Cody Ziglar does a really great job at showing a different side of Deadpool without diminishing what we all know and love about his character. It’s interesting how he integrated Ellie into Deadpool’s day to day life flawlessly while making her into a powerhouse just like her dad.
I give this a 10 out of 10
