The Team at Work

The Blood Hunters team is back with Hallow’s Eve, White Widow, Elsa Bloodstone and Dagger! Looking for vampires to cure and people to save, they take to the streets of Brooklyn. Well, at least White Widow, Hallow’s Eve, and Dagger are looking for vampires to cure. Elsa is looking to kill the vampires instead of saving them. After saving a few, White Widow realizes they’re missing a vampire. The vampire in question, Avery, has run off to join the team of super vampires called The Bloodcoven.

The Blood Coven

The Bloodcoven is as unhinged as it sounds, which I absolutely love. Bloodstorm One, Cruel, Damascene, Unusual, and Smoke Eater are at each other’s throats when Avery pledges himself to the Blood Coven. Bloodstorm One, their leader, commands Smoke Eater to use his powers to find out Avery’s true intentions. That’s when they learn that the Blood Hunters are on their way to them.

Friendly Neighborhood Vamp

While the Blood Hunters are looking for Avery, they run into Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man, as he’s stopping a scuffle between a group of vamps. After offering their help, Miles happily agrees to a team up. Elsa gets her chance to shoot at some vampires, and accidently hit Miles. Seeing how the bullet effects Miles, the team realizes that Miles is actually a vampire, and that’s when things get complicated.

The Art

Honestly, I love the art of Blood Hunters #1. It fits the tone of the plot very well. Something I really want to compliment is how the Blood Coven was illustrated. Each member had their own dark and villainous look that made each one of them very unique. I really enjoyed how Smoke Eater’s powers were drawn. It was like a dark and gritty titlewave of smoke that had the energy you’d want from a member of a group of super vamps.

The Writing

Erica Schultz hasn’t missed once and Blood Hunters #1 seals that deal. I really enjoyed Blood Hunters #1-4, so I was ecstatic to see she was continuing the team of Dagger, Elsa, Hallow’s Eve and White Widow. Now with the Blood Coven and Spider-Man in the mix, I’m more excited than ever. The Blood Coven is an exciting factor to add in as I’m looking forward to seeing them in action even more. With the Blood Hunters team, I really enjoy them working together as they seem like people who just wouldn’t work together, but Schultz does a great job with their banter and tension.

I give this a 9.5
