More Reviews for the Blood Hunt Event! Enjoy!
She’s the best there is
Laura Kinney, the killing machine, the Wolverine, the vampire slayer? She’s a woman of many talents! We find Laura in Upstate New York slaying the blood suckers one by one. She’s on a mission to rescue her sister, Gabby, AKA Scout. Turns out the vampires have taken her hostage and has been draining her of her blood. Evidently, the vampires have been trying to drain a number of mutants for their blood. The blood sucking monsters think the mutant blood will give them mutant abilities, which is a fair assumption.
No one gets left behind
Laura says it’s time to get out of the overrun hospital but Scout still has her mission to complete. She’s there to save someone else that’s being held hostage. Although Laura can’t sense anyone else there, Scout is adamant that the mystery victim is there and needs help. After searching, the sisters find the hostage and Laura isn’t pleased one bit. According to Scout, Laura is just being narrow-minded. Scout says the hostage can be trusted and will be very helpful to their cause. Especially since it’s revealed that the vampires have been experimenting on him with the mutant blood.
The Art
The artwork was a lot of fun in X-Men: Blood Hunt- Laura Kinney the Wolverine #1. It certainly showed a lot more blood than the other Blood Hunt comics I’ve read. I think it was very fitting for such a strong character like Laura.
I really appreciated the contrasts of colors in each panel, such as the bright red of the blood against the blue colors of the vampires. Or the dark and muted backgrounds juxtaposed with Laura and Scout’s yellow suits. The end fight scene has a full page of Laura beating the brakes off the vampires and it’s illustrated to perfection. I think the artists had a lot of fun with this one and it really showcased their talents.
The Writing
As I always say, Stephanie Phillips never misses. X-Men: Blood Hunt- Laura Kinney The Wolverine #1 is such a wild ride of mutant goodness. I love seeing Laura and Scout working together but also at odds with each other. The dialogue was written in a way that you can see their both frustrated with each other, but still will do what needs to be done for the other. My one and only complaint is that I want more of it right this second!
I give this a 10 out of 10
