Into the darkness…
We start Dracula: Blood Hunt #3 with Brielle Brooks, AKA Bloodline, unconscious on the ground with Varnae standing over her. He has put Brielle under an illusion to force her to make the decision to join her father, Blade, in the Blood Hunt. In the illusion, Blade, who is actually just Varnae speaking through him, shows her the life she could have if she were to join him. He tells her to stop playing a hero with Dracula and come join his kingdom.
Outside of the illusion, Dracula protects Brielle while fighting off Varnae’s minions. While they are much more than he bargained for, he still proves he is truly the Lord of the Vampires. He slashes through each monster while Brielle is still fighting through Varnae’s illusion. Varnae tells her if she wants her friends to even have a hope of surviving, they’ll join him. I’d say that’s a pretty compelling argument. Brielle must to make a choice but luckily, a familiar voice helps her through all of the chaos.
The Art
The artwork in Dracula: Blood Hunt #3 is incredibly satisfying. Varnae’s illusion he has Brielle trapped in is mesmerizing, with its vivid colors contrasted against black. This contrast enhances the illusion’s impact, making it seem even more intense. I really liked the scenes with Dracula fighting the minions and how they were drawn. Somehow Vincenzo Carratù was able to make Dracula look larger than life with just these panels. Hats off to the artists because they really did do an incredible job.
The Writing
The third installment of Dracula: Blood Hunt does an incredible job at continuing with as much excitement as the first two. I think this one was written with more intensity especially when dealing with Brielle’s illusion. You could really feel her terror when she sees what she could become if she were to join Varnae. But you could also feel her anguish when she took that phone call from the person who pulled her out of the illusion. All in all, this is expertly written to have you feel every emotion that plays out in each panel.
