The Story:

The story is racing towards it’s conclusion as War Machine uses some unconventional methods in the fight against Orchis! Meanwhile, Tony has to deal with the repercussions of his actions.

The Writing:

Gerry Duggan is bringing this story to a close in such a rewarding way. The one consistent praise I have given this series is that it reads like a love letter to the long time fans. That feeling is on overdrive here. The dialogue between Rhodey and Tony, as well as, Rhodey’s anger towards Stark are so rich and steeped in character backstory. This issue made me so excited for what is to come at the same time as it kept me grinning from ear to ear while reading it. Duggan has a firm grasp on who these characters are and what makes them tick. At no point in this series has any of the characters felt off or not like themselves. On top of the great character interaction, this was just fun to read. I laughed out loud more than once, and even though this is a wrap up issue it didn’t seem like it was going though the motions. I really have enjoyed this story and that is thanks, in large part, to Gerry Duggan’s incredible writing.

The Art:

The art team of Andrea Di Vito and Bryan Valenza deserve a huge amount of praise. The amount of characters on multiple panels throughout this issue was a marvel to behold. Each panel had wonderful little nuggets of humor in the background. Not to spoil too much but a certain villain with a jet pack provided one of the many laugh out loud moments. The “Freshen Up” protocol was a really nice touch and great call back as well. A great mix of humor, action, and a little body horror made the art in this issue a real stand out in an already impressive series!

The Verdict: 9.5/10

This was so close to a perfect issue! My only real downside was that I wasn’t ready for it to end. This book flew by at breakneck speed and didn’t let up until the very last page. With fantastic art, impeccable writing, and a couple of great setups for what is to come, this book is an absolute must read!
