Responsibilities of a Daughter

In the second installment of Dracula: Blood Hunt, we start with Brielle Brooks, AKA Bloodline, running as fast as she can after being told some troubling information. She was told by Dracula and other heroes that she must be the one that kills her father, Blade. Blade is the mastermind behind the blotting of the sun causing the vampires of the world to roam free. It’s pretty understandable why she’s running. Hero or not, how can she be expected to take out her own father?

Daredevil to the Rescue

While she’s running, Brielle is attacked by a herd of vampires looking for trouble. She fights and fights, unaware that she’s being watched by the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Kindly enough, Daredevil steps in to help her fight off the blood sucking monsters. Once the vampires are taken care of, Brielle turns her focus on Daredevil.

Reasonably, Brielle is not in the mood for another hero to tell her what she must do to her dad. Fortunately for her, Daredevil seems to be the only hero in New York out of the loop on what’s going on with the Blood Hunt. Blade’s daughter fills Daredevil in about what’s happening and why she was running. Frankly, it was nice seeing someone hear her out and be so understanding to her when she needed it most. But that support is cut short when Dracula catches up to the both of them. It seems Brielle is going to have prepare herself to be the hero everyone is expecting her to be.

The Art

Dracula: Blood Hunt #2 is beautifully drawn with mystical aspects that work so well with the street level backgrounds. Dracula is drawn in a way that makes him look larger than life in a single panel that exudes the vibe of dark magic. The coloring combined with the drawing knocks it out of the park. The brightly colored details juxtaposed with the dark background gives the perfect look for the Blood Hunt event. One of my favorite panels is of Daredevil jumping to Brielle’s rescue and fighting off the vampires. The artists did an amazing job of showing how acrobatic Daredevil is by nature when he fights. As Brielle said “watching him move is a ballet”.

The Writing

Something I really enjoyed was how relatable the dialogue of Brielle was. Throughout the comic, had a humorous way to say the way she feels, while still showing she was going through so much turmoil. I think the creativity that went into how Brielle was written alone is what sold me on this comic. With Brielle’s spunky dialogue, Daredevil’s even tone, and Dracula’s stern and threatening demeanor, Dracula: Blood Hunt #2 really gives you all you could ask for.

Final Thoughts

I’ve read quite a bit of the Blood Hunt event, and I have to say this might be my favorite run. All in all, there’s so much depth within this story with very high stakes. The creative team is doing an outstanding job on all fronts in Dracula: Blood Hunt #2.

I give this a 10 out of 10
