Black Panther Blood Hunt #1:

T’Challa was gravely wounded in battle against a group of vampires called BLOODCOVEN as they launched a violent attack against humankind. As the mastermind behind the attack, Blade turns him into a vampire and sends him off to complete a quest vital to Blade’s plan.

The Art:

Farid and Dalhouse come in swinging through their work in this first issue. Farid does an excellent job with the fine details, such as the muscles within T’Challas suit, the various creatures he must face as his home descends into madness, and the dense jungle. Andrew, meanwhile, compliments the detailed drawings in a colorful and vibrant manner. The issue takes place at night and yet the coloring pops from the pages and accents the story very well. They have done a menacing job turning T’Challa into a creature of the night keeping his traditional look while showcasing the horrors he now lives with.

The Writing:

T’Challa is at war with himself as much as he is at war against Blade and the BloodCoven, which Cheryl hammers home in this opening issue. He will never betray Wakanda, yet you feel his sense of struggle as he grips with being turned into a vampire. He is written with such respect and high regard, and you still find yourself guessing if he will succumb to the temptations he faces. Joe makes the lettering work as he blends it into the unique darkness of this issue crafting the cherry on top of the mood in this issue.

Overall:

A strong entry into the Blood hunt series as our most noble hero is now fighting with himself and time as he is looking for answers. This first issue is bloody and heroic all the same and seeing Blade in this light is a refreshing departure from his usual character.
