Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! I’m here to the latest entry in the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe!

If you’ve never listened to the ODPH Entertainment Edition (and you really should be) I’ve been saying for a while that what the entire crew behind The High Republic at Lucasfilm have been doing. It is some of the best storytelling out there in Star Wars right now! So with that said, let’s jump right into it!

Star Wars The High Republic Issue #7 by Cavan Scott (writer), Marika Cresta (artist), Jim Campbell (colorist), VC’s Ariana Maher (Letterer), Phil Noto (cover artist) wastes no time jumping into the action with Ceret, Keeve Trennis & Trey Sirrek dealing child that Lourna Dee of all people is a nursemaid for. If you recall, the last issue ended with the child appearing to force push Terec right as the issue ends.

WANT MORE STAR WARS?

From there, the issue then spirals into a situation where everyone involved wants what’s best but nobody is willing to stop for five minutes and discuss how to go about that. Jedi start pulling out their lightsabers on each other and fighting, and even use the Force during the fight.

Ultimately it’s Keeve Trennis the Jedi Master who steps in between the combatants and starts talking some sense. Trennis says Sskeer (a Trandoshan Jedi Master) is suffering from Magrak Syndrome (a disease that affects his species and essentially turns them into raging animals) and calls out Ceret for trying to fight a child. All the meanwhile, the child is in the arms of Lourna Dee who used to be an enemy of the Jedi and a former Nihil!

Cooler heads eventually prevail and the group mourns a fallen friend. And right as you think things are going to settle down, they kick right back up again. The group is going to have to come together and put aside whatever disagreements and differences they might have, and work together with a former enemy they might not be able to trust fully. And it begs the question, just how can they save they day?

Final Point: Cavan Scott weaves a masterful story that gives the reader very little time to breath and instantly kicks the story back into high gear in an incredibly gripping way. It brings together an unlikely group that has to put aside a lot of baggage and work together at a time when it seems like no one in the group wants to, and the group is mostly Jedi! And with the final frame, it will leave readers of The High Republic novels curious of just what will happen next.

Score 8.5 out of 10
