Quick Stops by Dark Horse comics

If you’re a Kevin Smith fan, then you’re most likely very familiar with Mooby: the infamous golden calf that represents a fictional (turned actual pop up spot) fast food restaurant throughout the Askewniverse.

Well, have you ever wondered how Mooby came to be? Volume 2 of Quick Stops tells the sexy turned dark story behind everyone’s favorite golden calf.

Volume One of Quick Stops expanded on the overlapping universe Kevin Smith has created with Clerks, Mallrats, and more. Attending a Hicks family reunion combining all the different Brian O’Halloran characters, and going down memory lane for a character who was briefly mentioned but died comically and tragically, were just a couple highlights.

Volume Two is solely the origin story behind Mooby, and Issue #4 just wrapped up this origin story with a lovely (very dark) little bow, and some precious father daughter bonding.

Check out the review for Issue #1.

The Story for Issue #4

This issue kicks off with Randal & Elias inside Quick Stops discussing why Elias lent Jay and Silent Bob his mom’s car. However, this isn’t what the story is about. Jay’s daughter, Millenium Faulken, is looking for her missing friend. Not realizing she is about to uncover the dark truth behind Mooby!

A truth that seems more likely for the Winchesters to solve, but never underestimate the unstoppable duo of Jay & Silent Bob. Will the truth ever be set free for the world to know, or will it be buried along side the numerous bodies in a sweet old lady’s backyard?

The Art

If you love the retro newspaper feel of comic styles, and the black and white nostalgia of Clerks, you’ll love this art. In addition to creating new characters to tell the origin of Mooby, some familiar faces showed up in this issue as well, and were instantly recognized.

Throughout this volume there is plenty of sex and violence, yet the art perfectly captures the magic of the Askewniverse, and moves the story along beautifully.

Quick Stops Vol. 2, #4 Rating: 9/10

Love, bullies, a threesome, murder, greed… this comic has everything! Issue 4 just wrapped up the all too perfect origin story of Mooby. It was nothing like what I expected, yet somehow, exactly what I expected. I enjoyed this story from beginning to end, and wrapping it up with some familiar faces and bringing it all together made it even that much better.

If this story ever ends up in Hollywood, I hope it’s one Jay & Silent Bob don’t stop! If you’re a fan of any Kevin Smith movie, get some chocolate covered pretzels and some beers beers beers, then go grab the Quick Stops comics, and enjoy. Snoogans!
