It has been eight years since Rose met with Eleanor and was forced to escape with Elliott and the remaining group. Rose has been training for the moment when she could finally come face to face with Eleanor and her past. The epic conclusion to Kill Your Darlings hammers us with intense action, pulls at our heartstrings, and the hero of Rosewood will rise at last.

The Art:

Robert Quinn perhaps saved his best work for this finale, which is gushing with amazing scenes of action and very tense and heartbreaking moments. The contrast of this dead world against Rose’s once-imagination-turned-to-life comes together so vividly and makes for a stunning issue. Bringing Rosewood to life could not have been easy, but he made the pages leap at us effortlessly. It has truly been one of the finer works of art within a comic this year.

The variations of creatures is another point I would like to hit on. Bringing animals such as battle-hardened mini elephants against things such as demonic and lifeless beings creates a clash of ideas. Seeing the two worlds collide paints the picture of desperation our characters are up against which enhances the story that much more.

The Writing:

Sheridan and Parker held nothing back in this finale. I was not expecting a time leap of 8 years, but despite that, it works in the realm of the story. Having Rose go through the hero’s journey and learn from her past to make then the decision she does in the end with Eleanor is a million times better from a storytelling standpoint than what they could have done. Every character has an ending that they somewhat choose even with Eleanor and it strengthens the overall arc.

In addition to the strength of the story, John brings the words to life through his lettering. He delivers feeling in every scream, sound effect, and word spoken.

Overall:

I am sad to see our journey with Rose Elliott and Wallace come to an end, at least for now. It was an extremely joyous and often thrilling ride. The art and words on every page and every panel had an immense amount of love poured into them, which shows.

10/10 Overall.
