Marvel Keeps The Energy Going
After reading X-Men ’97 #1, I was really excited to read the next comic in the series. The first one was everything I could ever want out of an X-Men comic book. It had heart, there was action, there was everything you loved about the X-Men. I am very pleased to say that the second installment is no different!
Let’s Meet Our Villains
First panel starts with Trish Tibly on FC News describing the events that went down at Dazzler’s concert in the first comic. When Trish said “luckily several members of the X-Men were in attendance”, I knew where this was going to go. Then it went to a very angry Mister Sinister punching his television mid angry villain monologue. Okay, I didn’t know he would be punching a TV, but I knew he would be mad. Close enough, right? We then see exactly who our beloved X-Men will be dealing with; The Sinister Seven.
This isn’t the Sinister Seven I’m used to, which involved Spider-Man villains. Instead, this team is made up of mutants, some not very recognizable while some are. I actually love that the Sinister Seven isn’t made up of really well known mutant. Give more mutants time to shine!
Now Onto Our Heroes
Speaking of our beloved X-Men, they were each in the same situations as we last saw them in the previous comic. One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the depiction of Scott’s response to Jean’s pregnancy, which was touching and heartening. However, this exciting news is contrasted with Wolverine’s reaction upon overhearing it. Thankfully, Wolverine finds comfort and understanding from another member of the X-Men. While they are dealing with the joyous and heartbreaking news of Jean’s pregnancy, the others are heading back from Dazzler’s concert, reliving the excitement from the concert. These scenarios excellently showcase the tight bonds within the team.
Of course, all of these scenarios are interrupted by the Sinister Seven by doing Mister Sinister’s bidding. It seems all of the X-Men have their hands full currently with the Sinister Seven and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
All In All
We X-Men fans are truly being treated with an abundance of fantastic content from Marvel lately. The writing and dialogue continue to impress, as expected! The emotional depth portrayed in each scenario within the comic was remarkable. Moreover, the artwork is exceptional, especially the vibrant portrayal of every fight scene, showcasing the brilliance of each powerset’s bright colors.
