Mace Windu #2:
Mace and Azita race through the underground tunnels of Ro Mira as Mace continues to press for the sale of Coaxium to the Jedi and only the Jedi. Meanwhile, the journey takes an unexpected turn when the fundamental ideals of both parties come into play…and, of course, the threat of giant worms.
The Art:
The overall artwork has a very nostalgic Star Wars feeling, as it reminds me of the comics I grew up with, which endears me to the vibe of this run. The beauty of Star Wars is how magical planets can feel, and despite being in a tunnel, the art team highlights this. Dalhousie brings a vibrancy to the coaxium-laced tunnels, while Georges does a great job showcasing the use of the Force through the drawings.
I’m excited to see where they take us on this journey and what other monsters the team is able to craft. Additionally, the minor details, such as Mace’s lightsaber hilt, were done down to the last minute detail, showcasing the attention to detail these guys can craft.
The Writing:
Marc really nails the fundamental ideologies of the Jedi and their shortcomings. This issue really highlights that the Jedi are inherently flawed in their thinking and that maybe they are not so different from regular beings. He really nails down the lore and showcases his understanding of this universe. One thing never talked about is the Jedi way of life which Marc digs into a bit and then brings us close to Azita with her connection to Mace.
Overall:
This issue is a light and easy read. It is perfect if you are looking to escape from the real world and go to a faraway galaxy. It captures the Star Wars spirit and simultaneously brings up real issues with the characters within this expansive universe.
9/10.
