Weapon X-Men by Marvel Comics

A new Wolverine story kicks off with the multiverse in danger. An evil has been created that must be stopped before more worlds end. On Earth 295, a team is being put together. A team of Wolverines, brought together by Phoenix. While they’re not all the peak specimens you might imagine a multiverse saving team may need, they’re still all the best at what they do.

Check out the review for Wolverine #44.

The Story for Issue 1

From Zombie Wolvie to Old Man Logan, we get many different versions of Wolverine from many different past stories. However, whether you’ve read all of them or none of them, you’ll have no problem following the current story. The various Wolvies are sent to an Earth where mutants and humans appear to have a mutual respect for each other. Together they were previously able to stop an alien invasion. As they’re celebrating the anniversary of this triumph (while some mourn those lost that day), it suddenly becomes clear this team of Wolverines got there just in time.

The Art

This story was beautifully drawn and colored from beginning to end.  Every version of Wolverine was perfectly done to highlight what makes them unique, while Phoenix was powerful and gorgeous. The action sequences took it up a notch, with perfectly colored backgrounds, and panels so gorgeous you’ll want to frame them. In addition to some perfectly executed Wolverines and action scenes, we got a lot of cameos for characters we all know and love. This was X-Men art at its finest.

Weapon X-Men #1 Rating:  9.5/10

I’m a sucker for a good Wolvie story, and this one was a ton of fun! It had the big three: action, surprises, and comedy. Whether you’re watching X-Men the animated series, Hugh Jackman as Logan, or reading a Wolverine comic, you have to have some good one liners, a lot of heart, and a lot of action. This comic delivered on all of those. And as a bonus, we get more ‘Old Man Logan.’

While this story is stand alone, if you want more back story there is a whole page at the end of the comic, telling you exactly what comics these Wolverines came from. One particular Logan I can’t wait to learn more about, isn’t a Logan at all. All in all, if you love the X-Men, Wolverine, or just good comics…add this comic to your pull list! SNIKT!
