MS Marvel Mutant Menace #1:
CREATIVE TEAM:
Iman Vellani, Sabir Pirzada (Writers,)
Scott Godlewski (artist,)
Erick Arciniega (Color Artist,)
VC’s Joe Caramagna (Letters.)
Carlos Gómez and Jesus Aburtov (Cover.)
PUBLISHER: MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT
The secret is out that Ms. Marvel is a mutant at a time when mutants are being hunted down and their every move tracked. Kamala has it under control, or does she when a mysterious plant-powered mutant shows up, causing mayhem for him and her alike?
The Art:
Scott and Erick bring us a colorful and modern vibe to this latest X-Men tale. I enjoyed Scott’s ways of contorting Ms Marvel and making her work within the panels. At no point did they over crowd or give too much to what is going on.
Meanwhile, the colors really complimented the energy, which is Ms Marvel is a naive, happy-go-lucky teenager new to this world in a way.
MORE X-MEN STORIES
Another aspect I enjoyed was the blends of culture drawn and colored within this issue. Lastly, the amount of detail and fine lines drawn within the leaves for me was an incredible detail that shows how meticulous they worked to create this vibrant world.
The Writing:
Iman and Sabir are having a lot of fun in this. Iman especially is capturing her character’s spirit in the pages, which I think can be hard to do sometimes.
Getting to play with characters such as Deadpool and Wolverine stood out because they, along with Joe, hit on the speech patterns they would have. Iman coming out swinging in the world of comics is such a delight because you can see so much passion and understanding behind her words.
Overall:
I’ve never been a big fan of Ms Marvel comics, yet this intrigues me. There are a lot of real-world scenarios written that make this world feel true and as though we live there ourselves. The team cares about this book, which is evident from the get-go. I will be making sure this gets added to my pull list!
9.5/10 Cigars Bub.
