The hour grows increasingly desperate for our heroes as the Titans continue to wreak havoc on the world above and below the sea. This issue brings enemies to work together as friends to save the world against all odds. Filled with exciting easter eggs, visually stunning shots, and humor, this issue packs a heavy punch as we near the climax of this atomic tale.

The Art:

This issue and run is so much more than a simple love letter to heroes and Kaiju, as is evident when there is an epic sequence of one of the creatures swimming upwards after Flash ripped straight from Jaws itself in a stunning homage.

We also get a fist-pumping-induced fight sequence from one of my favorites, Green Arrow, as he is taking on the League of Assassins single-handedly. The visuals are well drawn out, and these creatures’ overall spacing and scale are masterfully drawn out in every panel.

Despite the amount of action taking place, it never once feels as though it is overcrowded on the pages. The colors play tremendously well against each other, creating a visual buffet that sucks you in deeply.

There is a lot to see on these pages, and readers should take their time to soak it in as we are being spoiled. Getting to witness Shazam go head to head with rogues from every hero was a welcome surprise that ended up being some of the best sequences in this issue as well.

The Writing:

Brian is having the time of his life. It oozes with every word from our heroes. The tonal shifts he has to make when going from one character to the next, whether it’s Lois and Kara grieving Clark or Ollie fighting his way across a ship, showcases the talent and understanding of what he is working with. Even with Kong, who has become smitten with Kara to a degree, the love letter Brian is penning blends in tremendously with the art.

Let’s not forget Jimmy and Richard who do a splendid job lettering out this issue and truly makes you feel the emotions that are being conveyed through the words on the page.

Overall:

This issue is much like reaching the top of the rollercoaster and then hitting that first drop. On every page, we are met with something that brings pure joy and delight. The Lantern Corp showing up, the Titans, Grodd with a Kryptonite horn, and much more. It’s truly the gift that continues to give, and making the Justice League of all teams feel desperation and have their backs to the wall is not easy. The fact Lex Luthor is now suited up as Mechagodzilla alone makes this story an instant classic.

10/10!
