Beneath the Trees tells of a mystery among a town, Woodbrook. There is terror among families, and one person is on the case. Sam is determined to find who is behind all of these killings.
The comic quickly reminds me of Rocket the Raccoon from Marvel, as the comic tells of the characters back stories.
All of the characters are animals. Living every day lives, and the killer living among them. Samantha has a very big hunch that it’s one of the people that she knows, and is willing to investigate that person.
This comic ends again with a cliffhanger, as Samantha is still on a quest to find out who it is. What I like about this issue, is the mystery aspect of it.
There is a narration piece that is going alongside as Samantha and other characters are going through their day. As the reader, I became deeply attached to Samantha’s investigation, and how she went about it.
THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK!
The coloring of each panel is beautiful, it kind of reminds me of the stories when I was little. It was like one particular story of ‘Little Bear’ with the vibrant, throwback style of a childhood book.
I also like how the dialogue flows throughout each page. It becomes apparent that the colorist took the time to bring emphasis on shading.
Overall, this third issue is great. I’m wondering what will happen with Samantha’s next investigation. I think that there will be more snooping around, and having her follow the clues, so she can figure out who the killer is.
