READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW
Plot Overview:
A who’s who Gala of scum and villainy is underway, and Bucky has strapped himself with two beautiful weapons in the form of Natasha and Yelena to crash their party. A surprise host helms the “Hellfire Club” gala as the Kingpin enters, bringing about this party of wretched, vile beings.
Sporting a newer name, The White King, it is revealed that he is receiving Skulls’ vast wealth and hiding it in an inter-dimensional body known as the Vaste. Both Widows move to make a play on the money while Barnes blows everyone’s cover, resulting in an epic battle between the four of them. They blow up Vaste from the inside out and escape, leaving Fisk to stew in a fiery fit of rage.
The Art:
Geraldo and Arthur knock it out of the park as they leave everyone dressed in a way even the Golden Globes would be jealous of at this party. Bucky, Natasha, and Yelena are all stunning and even intense as the battle sequences of fisk are drawn as though they were creating a ballet. You can truly feel the rage in Fisk by his mere looks and that is a testament to how well drawn this issue is.
The Writing:
The Hivemind showcases their diversity as they do a great job playing our three primary characters off of one another. Bucky and Natasha being smitten while capturing the humor as though all three are having the time of their lives makes this issue feel like a lot of fun. The weirder a story gets the more Jackson and Collin thrive in their element.
Overall:
The return of a fresh new Thunderbolts story is finding its footing with our prime lead, Bucky, who shines like a star in this one. We get to see a powerful Wilson Fisk impose fear while Natasha, who has a symbiote embedded within her, kicks serious butt. It gives Marvel fans so much to cheer for. A Natasha and Bucky romance was not on my bingo cards for top romance of 2024, yet here I am. The Hivemind, undoubtedly, has the Midas touch when it comes to fun, outlandish, and exciting stories to tell.
