Ranger Academy #4 by Maria Ingrande Mora, artist Jo Mi-Gyeong, colorist Fabiana Mascolo, and letterer Ed Dukeshire.
Sage and her squad are off for their first trial and, hopefully, their first morph! Heading to a planet with some interesting-looking monks that we’ve seen before.
As the young team of teens travel across space, they are led by another one of the professors. Professor Walker, better known as Katie Walker, is a Time Force Yellow Ranger! This, to me, would be a natural progression for the Time Traveler.
She does take a second to go over a few precautions about their upcoming jaunt across the planet’s surface to the Bandorian Monks, where they will find out what Ranger Color they will be able to harness
Unfortunately, in standard PR tradition, the squad has to be at least five rangers, so to balance out their ranks is Maev and Kartyr. they really need to make this happen, being second years. Or they will be sorely behind the curve.
The BEST plans go….. HEY! Where’d they go?!
Going into this we obviously know that this is going to break up into a team of two and a team of 3. So POOF Kartyr and Maev are off taking the faster but more treacherous route.
Sage & Squad decide that taking the easier route will only put them minutes behind the hasty hellions ahead. So they go on their merry way. Sage this whole time has inner thought bubbles appearing doubting herself.
Sage really gets in her own head while traipsing around the foreign landscape. Thinking shes not worthy, she won’t be able to morph, and wondering about her dad again. Everything you would expect from a teenager!
The only way to fix it? CAMPOUT! Lindy, Theo, and Sage have an adorable campout. Theo tries to have some fun telling Ghost Stories. But Sage doesn’t get it! These are foreign concepts to her. But when Theo makes up a story about a haunted campus, little does he know it hits a bit close to home for Sage. Remember, the others don’t know about the face in the tube or any of that sort.
But we’re Rangers… Nah, it’s cool!
The next day, the trio finished their trek towards Prism Peak. Of course, Maev is ready to go inside, but Kartyr is nowhere to be found. He got stuck in a hole, taking the short route. Maev didn’t know how to save him, risk her ranger status, or leave him behind.
Sage steps up and decides to push everybody onwards and signal for help with the wounded Edenoian. They have a talk, and it comes across that even Kartyr is having second thoughts about morphing. Sage implies that he might have sabotaged his own chances by jumping in the hole himself. Well, help arrives, and so do Theo and Lindy?
They doubled back with the no man left behind mentality! Once Kartyr was safe aboard the ship, they bolted toward the Monks. Upon arrival, Maev comes out with her YELLOW coin in hand. Hugging Sage, thanking her, and saying that she owes her one. Theo up next goes in and thinks he is going to be a pink ranger like his sisters but comes out BLACK coin in hand! Lindy is up next and comes out saying she didn’t morph, but at least she now has her Spectracite.
Sage’s turn, she enters and tries to talk with the Monks which we can’t see but she understands and Morphs into

Thoughs from THE GRID
What an issue! I’m not going to go as far as say it was perfect but its hit every note you needed to this issue sang just like any coming of age 80’s flick. AND THAT’S NOT A BAD THING! This is a coming of age story AND a ranger story AND a background story. A lot of plot so running it thru this lens, WORKS!
Kartyr and Maev make perfct foils to our main junior rangers. I wouldn’t say Bulk and Skull worthy. Maybe a bit mode Cassidy and Devin. Being motivated but still having a bit of heart and selfawareness.
Katie coming back as the Professor is a perfect progression for her character and I’m 100% behind it. I tried do do some math to figure out when this series is in previous posts and figure if we have Katie its gotta be the year 3000! Right?!
WRONG! She’s a time traveler! plus factoring in Yale and Doggie were there in another issue dosent make sense. So Let’s assume Katie came back to teach.
Theory: I think Lindy did morph, shes a white ranger. The coins bolt is white! IDK, join in the discussion.
Covers that Morph
