Uncanny Avengers #5
Writer – Gerry Duggan
Artist – Javier Garron
Color Artist – Morry Hollowell
Letterer – VC’s Travis Lanham
PUBLISHER: MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT
The Story:
Captain Krakoa has been revealed! Captain America and his Avengers Unity Squad must race against the clock to stop him and the MLF’s plan to detonate a nuclear weapon at Empire State University.
The Writing:
As has been the trend in this Fall of X event, Gerry Duggan’s writing was stellar. The pacing and dialogue of this issue were top notch. Each character has a unique voice, with the standouts being the unmasked Captain Krakoa and Deadpool. Duggan’s writing of Deadpool’s signature manic sense of humor had me laughing out loud more that once while reading this comic.
The Art:
The art team of Garron and Hollowel continue to delight as each page had so much to look at. The team’s abilities were on full display, in glorious color. Once again, like with the writing, Deadpool steals the show here. Without ruining the scene, this issue has one of my favorite regenerations in all of comics. Truly wonderful work!
The Verdict: 9.5/10
At the end of the day, Uncanny Avengers is a great read that I wish was an ongoing story. This creative team did a great job of delving into a diverse group of heroes and I would love to see more from this team and the Avengers Unity Squad in the near future!
