The Plot:
Joe is continuing his hunt for answers which brings him face to face with the villainous unit The Night Shift! As he battles his way through the group Joe comes face to face with a truth that shatters his entire world. His wife was the actual target not him…
The Art:
Wachter and Brown have an elegant way of bringing every fight scene to life. From the subtle style of Garrisons outfit to the vibrant and diverse style The Night Shift are outfitted with. There’s also a beautiful fluidity to every action sequence that flows so well making the pages standout visually to me and enthralling me within the story.
The Writing:
Plain and simple David Pepose is having the time of his life on this story. He is playing with characters nobody would’ve ever dreamed to incorporate into a story about The Punisher. Meanwhile, he’s making it clear this isn’t Frank Castle. The way he diverges from the traditional Punisher motif should make fans happy. This is very much a Joe Garrison story and issue 2 makes sure to highlight this aspect.
Overall:
The team assembled for this run is working in one solid fluid unit. The story has action and thriller aspects to it with some really deep cuts character wise. The shocking revelation in the end brings the whole world of Joe crashing down and invokes emotion and sympathy from the reader. The action is top notch, and I love the teases we get for the next issue like a Saturday morning cartoon.
