After months of waiting and after the Free Comic Book Day preview. Ranger Academy has finally hit the racks from BOOM! Studios!
A Tale as old as Time
We get a semi-generic origin troupe about Sage a girl who lives with her dad on a distant moon all to themselves in a very simple lifestyle as a space shepherd. After saving a duo of Ranger Cadets that have crash-landed. She stows away onto their ship somehow her dad knew how to fix…. and is whisked off to the RANGER ACADEMY.
I’ve never heard of a Ranger Academy?!
Yep once they touch down Tula gives Sage the nickel tour and finds her some gear to pass as a new cadet. Did I mention that they are going to fake the fact her dad said yes? The same dad who chose to live on a deserted moon with his only daughter to “keep her safe”
Thoughts from THE GRID
So did anyone else get Luke Skywalker vibes from Sage? I appreciate that bit of intrigue from her father which will surely come back to bite us in the end. But what really got me was that this oversized 1st issue gave us some idea of the Ranger Academy lore! Almost like a brochure to sell you on the idea of sending your kid off to this school.
There is a lot of potential here and I can’t wait to figure out if this is going to be in line with the current comic book mythos or a parallel post Shattered Grid.
