RECAP: PREVIOUS ISSUE

The story starts with Gabi in a pool getting “therapy” before deciding that she and Riqui should go and therapy isn’t for her. The two arrive at Erica practicing her bow and arrow shooting albeit poorly at that. The trio is prepping for the up-and-coming fight as things are beginning to come to a head.

THE ART:

The grunge-style artwork by Werther and Miquel continues to be a strength of this series as the detail and emotions they are able to convey on the page are next to none. You can feel the heaviness and the weight that Erica and the characters hold on each page building to something grand. I could not imagine anyone else behind the artwork as they execute every moment flawlessly.

THE WRITING:

Much like the art James is building to something and he crafts it very well in the words he is laying on the pages. While Erica is busy preparing unbeknownst to her there is danger right around the corner which moves the story forward and builds upon the suspense that continues to grow. He even manages to get some light on the situation with the horse not named Gary which alleviates the seriousness of it all. James has fully taken the reigns on the echelon of top-tier comic book writers.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

The suspense this issue continues to build is very well executed and you can feel the tension growing within yourself as the story builds and it creates an impatience of dying to know how it all ends. There is a reason that Boom! Studios should be mentioned with the heavyweights of publishing and this run is a prime example.
