Star Wars: Inquisitors #1

THE JEDI MUST DIE! Weapons of the EMPEROR, sent out into the galaxy to track down and kill any Jedi who survived ORDER 66, the ruthless INQUISITORS are among the most skilled and deadly threats to those who served the light side of the Force. Buried in the annals of Jedi lore is the story of TENSU RUN, the Jedi who faced the Inquisitors and DARTH VADER! What became of him, and why did the EMPIRE so greatly fear his existence?

The Art:

Star Wars makes even the darkest moments feel so vibrant and full of life, as though the force is moving through the pages and motions. This issue is no different, as Ramon and GURU make this issue so full of desperation, filled to the brim with a feeling of hope. They do so by the planets they have drawn and colored as well as the bright and vibrant life forms. I did not expect a giant space Sloth to even make an appearance, but they have added a new favorite creature into the fold. Another key standout in the artwork is the movement of a lightsaber. It can be hard within a panel to convey the swift movement of a lightsaber but, they capture it cutting through the air like butter in a unique way. Visually this issue is pleasing and fills us with that hopeful feeling that Star Wars knows how to bring.

The Writing:

Rodney introduces characters we have become familiar with, such as The Grand Inquisitor and Darth Vader, and really hammers home the difference in their tones with the help of Joe. The snake-like words spewing from the Grand Inquisitor can be felt through the letters and the matching harsh monotone growl of Vader. He does a great job crafting this larger-than-life legend and story with Tensu Run. The Jedi are an idea, and it’s much harder to kill an idea over a being. It shows to me that this team loves and cares for the lore and universe they are working within.

Overall:

Star Wars: Inquisitors #1 brings us into a post-Jedi world and manages to keep the hope alive that this franchise is so well known to do. I enjoy getting to learn more about The Inquisitors and spending time with them and other Jedi in this post-Order 66 galaxy. It expands upon the lore and allows us to return to this galaxy far far away.

9.5/10 Lightsabers.
