On your mark, get set…

Continuing the epic battle to be the heir of Apocalypse, the contestants are brought their first challenge. The son of Apocalypse, Genocide, is destroying the city and the civilians in it. Genocide claims he is the rightful heir to the throne and he’s more than willing to cleanse the planet as it has grown soft. He makes that very clear with the mess he’s made of the town. It’s up to the 12 contestants to put an end to his destruction and ensure the safety of the humans.

There’s so many great looks at the powers of the contestants such as Exodus, Penance, Rictor, and many others in this comic. What I find particularly riveting is seeing them all work together, even though they’re supposed to be against each other in this competition. It’s interesting to see them out that aside for the greater good.

Some Have Already Lost

In this insane fight against the twelve contestants and Genocide, there’s also the loss of some fighters. This surprised me because I didn’t think it would happen so soon, but it definitely upped the stakes of the competition. I’m excited to see how the remaining contestants react to this in the next issue as they were left in states of shock and anger in the end.

The Art

I really enjoyed how each mutant showcased their own powers in very different ways. I love how the color schemes coordinate perfectly with the character. Alex Sinclair does a beautiful job with using contrasting colors to highlight the character.

The amount of details in every panel can’t be overlooked. Every page has such intricate detail, I found myself spending much longer on each panel admiring the work. You can see the artists of X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #2 are having a lot of fun with it and we’re all benefiting from it.

The Writing

Personally, I think the second installment of X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse was even more fun than the first one. The stakes felt a lot higher in this one, for sure. Steve Foxe is fantastic at keeping the excitement going throughout the comic. He does a great job at giving each mutant their own chance to shine without watering down the other characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next for X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse!

I give this an 8 out of 10
