Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And while normally I review everything Star Wars comic related here for Nerd Initiative, I’m branching out a little bit and reviewing issue #2 of The Amazing Spider-Man Bloodhunt story!

Bloodhunt is the big storyline going on in Marvel comics at the moment, where the Sun has gone dark and vampire’s are wreaking havoc on the Marvel comic universe.

NOBODY is safe from the vampires as the story will branch through everything from the Avengers to X-Men, Doctor Strange to the Fantastic Four, Midnight Sons & Venom, just to name a few! So with that said, let’s just jump into it!

The Amazing Spider-Man: Bloodhunt #2 by Justina Ireland (writer), Marcelo Ferreira & Chris Campana (pencilers), Roberto Poggi, Sean Parsons & Craig Yeung (Inkers), Rachelle Rosenberg (colorist) & VC’s Cory Petit (letterer) picks up right where issue #1 left off. And that’s with Spider-Man joining forces with Misty Knight & Lizard (aka Dr. Curt Conners) in an effort to get across Manhattan while avoiding the ever growing Vampire army.

The real interesting part of this issue is what’s going on between everyone’s favorite vampire Morbius and the CEO of Hemoglobin Inc, TJ. He reveals to Morbius that he’s working on a solution for the Vampire situation. Morbius isn’t sure why they’re trying because he’s failed at it for so many years. TJ reveals that they’re going a different way about it than Morbius did, and when presented with the method they’re trying Morbius is interested enough to work with TJ…for now.

Now normally I’d reveal my standout moment of the issue at this point, but for this issue I want to keep it a secret. I will reveal it’s in a moment with Colleen Wing and another person at Hemoglobin Inc and a conversation they had. It could be nothing, but I think it’s pointing to a potentially major plot twist in the overall story with Bloodhunt that I think is VERY interesting if they decide to go that way.

The other moment I do want to mention is a certain phrase is uttered in this issue that will certainly get some fans to pump their fists in the air. If you’ve been on the internet in the last few years, and you remember who is in this issue than you can probably guess what it is.

Marcello Ferreira, Chris Campana, Roberto Poggi, Sean Parsons, Craig Yeung & Rachelle Rosenberg all do an incredible job with the artwork, color and ink in this issue. They really do a great job making sure everything looks different than what you might normally expect from an average issue of a Spider-Man comic and give things a unique feel than what you might normally read. The sequence with Spider-Man, Misty & Lizard in front of the church is a particular favorite of mine.

FINAL POINT: Justina Ireland does an incredible job of taking Spider-Man, a character that has been around for nearly 62 years, and putting him into a story that’s compelling and intersting. And one that feels different than some of the stuff you might’ve read the last few years, and Spider-Man has been run through the ringer the last couple of years for sure. It’s a read an issue every Spider-Man should check out, because it’s a ton of fuin and an interesting read that looks like it’s building to a very interesting boil. I for one, cannot wait to see how things play out next.

Score: 9.5 out of 10
