Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue in the Darth Vader series from Grek Pak & Marvel!

This issue is the second part in the “Razing of Exegol” story, where we find Darth Vader and the Schism Imperial on the planet Exegol facing off against the Sith Eternal. It’s an action packed episode that does not disappoint! So with that said, let’s jump right into it!

Star Wars: Darth Vader #47 by Grek Pak (writer), Raffaele Ienco (artist), Federico Blee (colorist) & VC’s Joe Caramagna (letterer) wastes next to no time before jumping into the action. Vader & the Schism Imperial load up the kyber crystal they secured, and then Vader turns his attention to the M.A.R. Corp.

They’re the group that created the distraction for Vader to steal the crystal, but Vader decides they’ve worn out their welcome and decides to leave them for the Summa-Verminoth. The Summa-Verminoth for those who might not remember, is the giant monster that appeared in the sky at the end of the last issue.

SPOILERS BELOW

The standout moment of the issue is when Vader goes to touch the kyber crystal, and then has a discussion on an astral plane like field inside the crystal with none other than Darth Sidious himself. And Sidious explains that he knew Vader would go after the power, because “it is in our nature to seize any and all power.” And then he raises the stakes by asking Vader, “But what will you use it for? There are only two Sith. So who are they? You and I? Or your son and I? Or….you and your son?” All the while he’s laughing, because he knows what Vader’s plan is, and he’s more than likely one step ahead of him.

END OF SPOILERS

The artwork is of course, top notch. And would you expect anything less from Raffaele Ienco, Federico Blee & Joe Caramagna. The entire issue is vibrantly colored, and exceptionally detailed. I particularly want to commend them for giving some life to Exegol. Because that was something you really didn’t see in the Rise of Skywalker film.

FINAL POINT: The issue ends on a cliffhanger, but it’s not entirely surprising. Because it’s a moment that has been building for some time now. And what happens next is going to be awesome to read, and a story you’re not going to want to miss if you’re a fan of the prequel and/or original trilogies.

Score: 9.0 out of 10
