After diving into the first installment of Jackpot & Black Cat, I was very excited to read the next chapter for these dynamic characters. Their unique friendship, born from contrasting personalities, continues to captivate me. The follow-up edition of Jackpot & Black Cat caused the same excitement and admiration within me.

Let’s Dive In

The comic picks up right where the first one left off; Jackpot received a text claiming if she didn’t play Obscura’s game, her ‘guy in the chair’, Paul, would feel the wrath. Jackpot, being the hero she is through and through, can’t allow Paul’s life to be in danger but she can’t give up trying to stop Obscura. Fortunately, she won’t have to go through this alone. Black Cat, the world’s greatest thief, is there to help her best friend learn the art of being a thief.

Cat Burglar Becomes Teacher?

I really enjoyed seeing Black Cat bring Jackpot into her world of thievery and crime. These two women compliment each other so well and it shows very well throughout the second installment. Black Cat is such a complex character, so seeing her simplify her tricks to pull off a successful heist was pretty entertaining.

It was interesting to see Jackpot in the villain role. Jackpot, Mary Jane Watson, is usually such a do-gooder, but the villain role suits her quite nicely. Speaking of villains, did we get to see a new villain at the end of the comic book? It sure seems like it to me.

When All’s Said And Done

Jackpot & Black Cat #2 keeps the same energy as the first issue, which I was thrilled about. Black Cat and Jackpot have a great chemistry together, which is surprising given how different they are as individuals. You can see the different qualities of the two main characters being brought out by the other. They work so well together especially when the other is in trouble. It’s nice to see a comic where the women are working together rather than pit against each other.

The illustrations truly caught my attention, particularly the captivating scenes of Black Cat and Jackpot fighting off the security guards while on Jackpot’s heist. The artwork seemed perfectly attuned to the tone of the narrative.

As for the writing, it was masterfully executed. The dialogue flowed seamlessly, devoid of any forced elements. It felt authentic, mirroring how I would envision Jackpot and Black Cat to converse while on a mission together. Something I really appreciate is how Black Cat shows empathy and understanding for Jackpot at the beginning.
