Eight down and four to go in The Darkest Hour storyline and still the chess pieces are moving into the final gambit.

The Writing:

Melissa Flores adds some big scenes to this book. There is a connection, reconnection, introspection, deflection, affection, frustration, confrontation, salvation, and deception! Yes that a lot of TION’s but that’s why Melissa is killing it in this book its all over the place because she is smart fully juggling so many characters and wisely choosing the pace and tone to make them shine!

The Art:

Considering the backdrops are either the vast emptiness of space or the “vastness” of the Command Canter. The colors pop off the page. There is a scene with Zedd and Rita, yes, I said Rita. As much as they are villains, there is a feeling that writing puts you in, the art embraces it and you in the panel. It’s not just the only embrace in the book, either. Dark Spector gets an “embrace” of his own right too.

Thoughts from The Grid

As I said, I think we are finally in the endgame. As I mentioned on this week’s Turn-A-Page, I’m ready for this arc to be over. Not because, let’s get it finished; it’s been almost a year, and I’ve been waiting on the edge of my seat for each issue! Melissa masterfully paced this issue out with all the moving parts.

But for me there is the aforementioned introspection part with the Trini’s that just didn’t hit for me. I knew it was coming at some point but I think it could have been placed somewhere else in the story. Also there was a reunion that just felt needed but that led into a smaller side story part with Skull. Don’t get me wrong, I do love Bulk and Skull but there use in the in the entirety of this arc was a bit of a speed bump. It was well written but again time and place.

MMPR 118: 8/10 Power Coins

The speed bumps brought it down for me, but the art in this issue, especially with all the blackness, whether it was space or a bunch of huge onset black curtains (IYKYK), more than made up for it! Like I said, there are a bunch of “tions” in this issue, and I can’t wait for the resolution. Because after this where do me go next?!
