The 1998 blockbuster hit, Armageddon, has been making waves in the news lately. Did you know that NASA uses the film during their management training programs? Trainees are tasked with spotting as many errors as possible, and so far, 168 have been found. From the portrayal of space dementia to the use of duct tape to immobilize a crazed crew member, Armageddon has sparked interesting discussions within NASA.
But that’s not all – did you know that Steve Buscemi was initially cast as a hero geologist, trying to distance himself from his usual low-life typecast? However, after several rewrites, his character, Rockhound, started to pick up some sleazy characteristics.
And Bruce Willis’s involvement in the film is equally fascinating – he stumbled upon the project while trying to exit another failing project called Broadway Road. Disney worked out a deal where Willis would star in Armageddon and two future films in exchange for taking on the cost of the failing project against his initial salary. Those two future films turned out to be The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.

NASA’s Use of Armageddon in Training
NASA uses the 1998 film Armageddon as a training tool for management trainees. Trainees are tasked with spotting as many errors as possible in the film. So far, 168 errors have been identified.
