Braniac 1 of 5 is getting closer to solving the murder of RJ Brande while the Persuaders are hot on their trail. Meanwhile, Lightning Lad has the chance to become a superhero but learns that it may come at the cost of first being a supervillain!

Creative Team: Joshua Williamson, Hayden Sherman, Tamra Bonvillain, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.
The Story:
There are 3 different storylines running side by side in this issue as we continue to build towards them all converging like a massive train wreck. I love how Joshua Williamson is giving each story and its characters enough time to flesh out, and for the audience to bond with and get to know them. Braniac 1 of 5 and Tenzil continue to be my favorite. There are risks they are willing to take and are running amok trying to solve the murder. Meanwhile, Mekt and Garth may be the most tragic building story out of them all. Garth is a kid looking up to his bigger brother and Williamson writes this story that captures that essence while also insinuating just enough that Garth is being manipulated. This issue ends in a shocking and heartbreaking manner that is going to lead to a very explosive third issue.
The Art:
I am beyond impressed with Hayden’s artwork decisions within this particular run. I know Hayden has been stellar, but the manner in which they craft the panels stands out to me most. Each page is jam-packed with so much detail, and it isn’t just the characters. The backgrounds are full of life and detail, and the characters craft each scene, telling us more about the character than the dialogue itself. The way in which the panels are fragmented in various shapes makes this visually pleasing and fun to read. Tamra’s coloring brings the science fiction and futuristic vibe to life, whether it is shocking blues or the way everyone’s outfits are designed. The Persuaders are colored in a light blue but with just enough of an unsettling feeling about them. Hassan’s lettering is exquisite, with the dialogue showing off so much of how impactful and important lettering is.
Final Thoughts:
Legion of Super-Heroes #2 fully has my attention. This is a murder mystery mixed with a futuristic science fiction story that is so captivating. The team knows how to use plot and art to tell so much without ever feeling as though it is overstuffed.
Overall Grade: 10/10.
