The Story:

Things just are not going well for our friend Boston Brand, who has been thrown up and down every which way in search of what is happening to the world between worlds. Help does come from familiar faces, and it is a delight to see the creativity that Prince delivers with familiar faces, albeit with a touch of the unfamiliar about them. Brand finally comes face to face with our enemy as well, and we’re given a taste of a battle to come. All in all, this issue takes us on yet another journey where we inch ever closer to the end of our first arc.

The Art:

This cover is gorgeous, as it boasts a ton of detail, looking like Swamp Thing, but there are so many intricate lines and details woven throughout his structure that it blew me away before even opening the book. Inside, we are treated to Boston, who is human in this issue but it’s the characters and familiar faces he meets that have a twist to them, showing that this art team continues to keep their hand deep in the bag of tricks.

Final Thoughts:

The Deadman #5 sets us up for an explosive ending to the first arc of this incredible story. Boston’s journey has taken him to some weird places, and he must now face a foe who will not stop until everything is destroyed.

Overall Grade: 9/10
