The Story:

D’Orc just wanted some food… What he got instead is a huge, murderous, pig monster and some really bad advice about when and how to use his rage. Now D’Orc and his motley crew have to fix the problem they’ve found themselves in before the situation goes from bad to worse…

The Writing:

The world that Brett Bean has introduced us to continues to grow and be shaped into a fantasy world for the ages. The way that Bean is able to bring in new elements that are over the top and fantastical while still keeping the story grounded in moral questions is truly inspiring. This issue dives deep into D’Orc’s morality while keeping the story moving forward. I think that is what has been most impressive with Brett Bean’s storytelling, at no point has the overall story taken a backseat to monster of the week writing. Even when we get monster of the week issues, there is a button or a bit of dialogue to make sure that the reader remembers where our characters are and where they are going.

The Art:

I really am starting to run out of words to describe how great the art in this series is. Brett Bean and Frank William have, once again, turned in a book full of exciting monsters, frenetic action, and fantastic gore for an end result of a bloody good time! The introduction of Schweinehund with his belt of heads and necklace of bones was chef’s kiss perfection. Every time this team brings in a new creature or character, I know I’m in for a good time and between ghostly possessions and removed limbs this art is a BIG reason for this book’s success.

Overall Grade: 10/10

Each issue of this fantastic series introduces a new creature, threat, or moral conundrum for D’Orc to deal with. It is a testament to this fantastic creative team that it continues to be interesting and exciting to read each time. D’Orc shows the incredible potential that comics have to tell new and interesting stories in different genres. With eight fantastic issues down, this series shows no signs of slowing down, and I am here for wherever D’Orc goes next!
