DAREDEVIL #6: A Helping Hand.

Matt Murdock can finally focus on his real job, which he has neglected for weeks due to the chaos Omen has caused. However, New York never truly sleeps, and a longtime foe of Daredevil reaches out to him for help. The city is set to explode if he doesn’t stop it in time with this new arc of Daredevil!

The Story:

The dust settles over New York with Omen gone, and it wouldn’t be Matt Murdock if he wasn’t behind on work and flirting with a coworker! This felt like a number one issue in a way, as things feel hopeful and bright again with Omen now gone. I love the tone that Phillips starts things off with and how Matt is never off the hook. We get more time with Foggy, which feels like a tease because for me it is never enough of the two of them. I’m extremely interested in the dynamic between Matt and Doctor Ellison; it’s been a bit difficult to get a read on her, which draws me into her character. Some of the best moments in this run have been when Stephanie gets to write Matt as his everyday self. He fumbles over his words and comes across messy, which to me has been the highlight. We get more glimpses into that with this issue before things hit the fan. Being treated to characters such as Silvermane and Owlsly is a treat and lets some of the other villains shine without having someone like Kingpin as the focus point. Daredevil’s now forced to play nice with those he hates, and there is a shocking cliffhanger at the end of this issue which will have everyone excited! Lastly, one subtle detail is the way she drops a note in one of the boxes about the last time Daredevil met The Owl and whooped him. Little details and humor like this go a long way.

The Art:

Guest artist Flaviano takes over this issue and adds some fun moments and details into the world of Matt Murdock. The way Flaviano draws Matt gives the perfect detail to him as he comes across disheveled and not well-kept. The coloring by Rico was a standout, as the earlier pages give off a peaceful city with the way the trees are colored green and how the little hints of sunlight shine through. It’s a calming introduction before we take to the streets at night. When it’s time to turn up the heat, Daredevil has a menacing feeling to him and his punches through the artwork. Ariana’s lettering and the little inflections with Matt’s inner monologue made this issue inviting and kick off a new arc beautifully.

Final Thoughts:

Daredevil #6 is a warm-up with Murdock getting no time for relaxation in the city that never sleeps. Fans are going to love the final page of this book, and overall this run has found its footing in terms of tone and the right amount of fun blended with action.
