Aquaman is paid a visit by his friends in the Justice League who are out to find out just how powerful he has become. Meanwhile, Mera, Lori, and Vivienne are off to find a new Forge but, what they uncover may lead to the end of Atlantis!

The Story:
I knew it would be only a matter of time before Batman and the League got into Arthur’s business. I love how Adams brings them in and makes it appear that they are there to see if he needs help. Knowing Batman though, we know that isn’t the only reason. The battle lines are beginning to be drawn however, as Arthur’s entire Rogues Gallery has assembled with the aim to take him down. I love how the action gets intense as Mera, Lori, and Vivienne showcase some of their abilities and are able to take part in the action with this issue. It serves as a set up issue for what is to come and I am anxious to see the war ahead.
The Art:
Pablo brings a unique art style in and I love seeing everyone’s take on detailing the sea. There is an excellent use of shadowing as we go into the depths. Meanwhile, I will say it was nice seeing the Watchtower and other members of the league. Lokus’ coloring is vibrant as always and the way the ocean moves and the various shading of the water showcases how powerful the water attacks can be. The cover by Timms stands out to me the most due to its dark usage of greens and the reds which is an omen for the coming war.
Final Thoughts:
Emperor Aquaman #19 is a wake up call for Arthur as he must prepare for war. Adams delivers on intense action as the art team draws and colors with an electric fury. I’m ready for battle and cannot wait to see Arthur faces off against the God of the Sea next!
Overall Grade: 8.5/10
